Looking after your smile in Hertfordshire

General dentistry encompasses the range of treatments which focus on protecting your teeth and keeping them healthy. Our more popular general dentistry treatments include:

  • Dental check-ups
  • Dental hygiene
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Root canal treatment

At Inspire Dental in Rickmansworth, we believe in a preventative approach to dentistry which means we focus on prevention rather than cure.

When you join our dental practice, we like to see you for a regular dental check-up twice a year. In this way we can keep an eye on your oral health, monitor any changes and treat any issues that may arise quickly before they become a bigger and potentially costlier problem in the future.

We are proud to offer NHS dental treatments as well as private dental services. The NHS services will only cover those general dental treatments which protect and enhance the well-being of your teeth and oral health. Cosmetic dental treatments like teeth whitening and teeth straightening which are concerned with the aesthetics of your teeth are only available privately.

if you live in Croxley Green, Rickmansworth Sarratt or Hertfordshire and are looking for an NHS or private family friendly dentist, we look forward to welcoming you to our well-established dental practice.

You should visit your hygienist once a year. The hygienists at Inspire Dental focus on keeping your mouth, teeth and gums clean to prevent a build-up of tartar which can cause cavities and gum disease. Our hygienists also deal with halitosis (bad breath), help with brushing and flossing and offer diet and lifestyle advice.

Fillings

Cavities are small holes which can appear in your teeth due to poor oral hygiene, trauma or from consuming too much sugar in your diet. If you get a cavity in your tooth, you will need to get a filling to prevent it becoming painful or developing an infection. We offer white composite fillings as well as the traditional silver amalgam fillings.

Dental crowns

If a cavity in your tooth is too large for a filling or if you have root canal therapy which treats the inside of the tooth, you will need a dental crown to secure it. A dental crown is a cap for your tooth that sits over the entire top of your tooth to support it and provide protection.

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is used when you have an infection inside a tooth. You may experience pain, red or swollen gums or increased sensitivity. Over a series of appointments, your dentist will remove the pulp from within your tooth and flush out the root canals to eradicate the infection.

Dentures

Dentures remain the most cost-effective way to replace missing teeth. Dentures are made up of an acrylic removable plate containing a full, partial or one single false tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

About General Dentistry?

Patients from Northwood, Loudwater and Hertfordshire choose Inspire Dental for General Dentistry because:
What can I do to look after my teeth between dental check-ups?
6
7
You should brush your teeth twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes each time. You should floss your teeth to prevent the build-up of bacteria and plaque between the teeth. Limit the amount of sugar that you eat as this is the main cause of cavities.
Which toothpaste should I use?
6
7
There are many brands of toothpaste available and different toothpastes claiming to do different things, so it’s easy to be confused! We advocate using a toothpaste which contains fluoride and for an adult this should be at a level at which is at least 1,450ppmF.
What age should I bring my baby in to see the dentist?
6
7
Looking after your teeth begins from a very young age! We like to see children when their first baby tooth appears in the gum, and you should begin brushing at this stage too. It’s a good idea to get children used to the sights and sounds of a dental surgery so that they are not frightened, so feel free to bring your children with you whenever you are visiting the dentist.
